The Lowdown
The premise is a triptych of monologues arguing that your morning coffee habits dictate the fate of the universe. It is heavy, philosophical stuff, but Ella Hickson writes with enough sharp observation to keep it from drifting into lecture territory. Hugh Jackman, Marianna Gailus, and Sepideh Moafi handle the weight of the material with genuine gravity, avoiding the usual theatrical histrionics. Ian Rickson keeps the staging sparse, letting the language do the work in a room that actually rewards intimacy. You could wait for the Audible recording and listen while stuck on the 6 train, but seeing these three perform in a 391-seat house is worth the effort. It is a dense, thoughtful four-week run that demands your attention.
